We Pay, Billionaires Profit:
The Real Cost of Trump’s Tax Law
Introduction
Last July, the Trump administration signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA) into law creating the largest upward transfer of wealth from the working class to the rich in U.S. history and dumping hundreds of billions into the violent detention and deportation forces of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP).
Yale’s Budget Lab found that the bill will take money away from the bottom 40% of American households while the top 0.1% gain an average of an extra $118,000. The legislation permanently extends the tax giveaways to corporations and the mega rich in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, increases funding of ICE tenfold, guts the clean energy provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, kicks at least 17 million Americans off of their health care coverage, and increases the budget deficit by $2.8 trillion.
Why we made this toolkit
This law is harming our communities and our neighbors. As we sit down to file our taxes this tax season, we must make sure that our neighbors understand how this law is impacting their communities. Too often, tax giveaways to the rich go unnoticed because everyday people are just trying to make ends meet. We need your help to make sure your community understands what’s in the Trump Administration’s tax bill. This toolkit translates abstract big numbers into their everyday impact on six households and gives you tools to spread the word in your community.
